My fetching kitty
Hi all! I'm sad that this community looks a little quiet... it's so great there are others like me!
This is my kitty, Gypsy. I adopted her from my old roommate who couldn't keep her anymore. She's about a year old, and ever since I've known her, she would fetch. Mostly hairties, the thicker, no metal kind. She also steals them, out of drawers, out of my purse, wherever. She once tried to pull one out of my hair with her teeth as well. :D We bought her a set of bright ties (to differentiate between my blue and black ones) and she's managed to lose most of them. We got a bunch from under the couches this weekend.
Most of our games involve my boyfriend or I standing in the living room with two hairties. We throw one either up onto the couch or down the hall, and she tears after it and brings it back. The reason we'll have two is because once she sets down the tie, she likes to play "try to grab it before I claw you". So we'll throw the other tie, and grab the one off the floor. Complicated process. :)
The thing that pushed me over the edge to post in this community was last week. I was sick, and lied in bed a lot. She decided not to let that deter her, and she would hop onto the bed with one of the ties and place it carefully on my leg. Then she'd hop down and wait for me to throw it into the hallway. It cracked me up.
I'm trying really hard to get a good video of her. We'll try again this week and see what kind of luck we have.
Thanks everyone! Current Mood: happy

Since I first posted here
, I have gotten 2 more cats, and yes they fetch too! They are persians, the first ever non-mogs we have had, and I'm pleased to say they are just as fetching. Jeff (God Of Biscuits), the tabby boy, does the most of the fetching, Saffy, tortie girl, has done it but Jeff usually takes over! He favours little foam football toys, cats all seem to have a favourite toy to fetch!( You know you wanna see itCollapse )

This is my perfect baby boy, Neo. He fetches paper balls, stuffies, fur mice, rolled up socks, knotted cording, crumpled cigarette boxes, Q-tips (ACK), and even envelopes. He also puts his toys away when he's done with them. "They go HERE, mom, sheesh!"
He was only a few months old when I caught this picture. The intense expresison in his eyes (and eyebrows) still cracks me up.

thx so much.
. My kittens, apparently, fetch. Both of them.
It is 6 AM, and my little Valeria
woke me up about an hour ago to inform me that I had given her a catnip toy. She brought it in to show me, like, "Look, crack!" and then proceeded to run all over me and the rest of the room with much meowing and "prrt"-ing and tag-jangling. Only problem? My alarm clock is set for 10 AM today, thanks. (I admit that this is my fault for leaving her catnip, but I didn't know she'd discover it for the first time at 5 AM.)
As for my Sonyaaa
... well... if I leave ponytail elastics out, she takes them. And puts them in her cat food. And then, sometimes, she puts them back. Thank you, sweetheart.
This is, incidentally, my kittens' journal, in which further hijinks may be observed. I'd say "nice to meet you," except that I'd technically rather be asleep than be posting about my fetching kitten and her fetch quest at the fetching pre-dawn hour. Have a good morning, all. :)

Both of my cats fetch! Gozer
is 3yrs. (my icon) and has been an avid fan of bottlecaps and pill container lids
since he discovered them at 6months old. Zuul is
1 yr. (pictured below) loves
her crinkle balls and will bring all 4 of them up to
the kitty gate in the middle of the night and whine and trill as only
an Abyssianian can until I come and take them away
(not the nicest mommy).
If there are ANY hidden around the house at bed time
I have to follow her around pretending
I want to play fetch so that I can grab them ...
she always leads me right to them!
My two cats before them Hanna and Angus also fetched...tin foil balls and bottlecaps.
But I lost them in the divorce... Current Mood: amused

Who's the fetcher?!
This morning the cat is playing with his rat toy -- throwing it around, pouncing, stuff like that -- then comes up to me and gives me his "hey you" signal -- the toy had gotten stuck under a bench that he couldn't get under and he wanted me to retrieve it for him. How weird is that???! :) He made his noise, walked over to the spot and waited for me to fetch his toy for him!!! Current Mood: amused

[Buckeye, the Wonder Cat]
My cat fetches.
He will chase after his toy balls and rats and gross stuff, and then
bring it back and sit it down expecting me or whomever to toss it again.
I posted about it in my LJ and a friend directed me to this community.
Thank you for making me feel better about my wacko kitty. Current Mood: relieved

Oh my God! I thought ChiChi was the only one!
It started with a balled up popcicle wrapper that my husband threw for him, and to our surprise he brought it back! We eat a lot of popcicles so we keep him pretty busy, but when we don't have one, he'll go into the trash for just about anything crinkly, like receipts or any scrap of paper. He eve brought up a dollar bill from my purse once. Also, he'll come and spit out things on your face in the middle of the night and then poise himself for the chase. He'll run after anything we throw, but only brings wadded up paper back. It's so cute.
He's a strange cat in other ways too. For one, he doesn't meow in front of us. He's completely silent, but we know he can meow because he's done it a couple of times. Once when he get trapped in a closet and one when I closed him up (accidentally) in the recliner and he actually hissed at my mother-in-law once, but other than that, he's been completely silent for 4 years.
We also have his sister who is a much more typical cat- she doesn't fetch and she does meow.
I'm so happy that other cats fetch, but kind of sad too because I thought he was the only one.

I haven't made a post here before, but felt I had to today when this morning I was up early and my Phoebe brought me a ball asking me to play fetch with her :) It was a first because 1, she is very young (less than a year old), and 2, any time we are playing her brother Joey usually takes over, so I was glad to have this opportunity with her. Older cats, Suzie and Sandy, have both fetched for me before. Joey is the champion of fetching though.( A pic of Phoebe & Joey (not fetching)Collapse )

There is another game my human and I like to play... She calls it Copy Cat. We will be hanging out, laying on the couch or bed and I flick the end of my tail up and down. Slow, fast, pause at the top of the swing, flick it really quick, etc. She copies my tail movements with her finger. Then after a while, she will wag her finger different ways and I copy her with my tail. She was really surprised the first time we played this game... I guess she didn't know that I was that smart. Well why do you think they came up with the term copy-cat? Of course we kitties are smart enough to play that game! So have any of you tried it with your humans? We are curious to know. I have a mousy that I love. I fetch it when she throws it down the basement steps, I put it in my food bowl, I talk to it late at night when the humans are sleeping. http://simbarin.tripod.com/simbasdomain/

Our New Kitty
A couple weeks ago, my dad and I adopted a three year old male, named Max. He and Evie have gotten to be very best friends.
And then my dad had the brilliant idea to teach Max how to fetch. So he played fetch with Evie while Max sat and watched. Max wasn't having any of it.
Then yesterday evening, he caught Max and Evie playing fetch. Max would pick up one of the fetch-mice in his mouth, shake his head, and try to toss it as far as he could. It only went about a foot and a half, but Evie dutifully picked it up and carried it back to him. He "tossed" it again for her. My dad said they did this for about 10 minutes, until they realized Daddy was watching.
That's SO CUTE! Current Mood: shocked

Awwww, Bob from Animal Heartline
andThe Kitty Report
has a new site up called <a href="www.fuzzypaws.com>Fuzzy Paws</a>, a website featuring cat movies of the cats he loves! I have to brag, he does such a wonderful job with Animal Heartline that I needed to show off more of his "work!"
More kitty goodness!
As part of my weekly (when i'm home) I'd like to show off my work with the kitties! Just to let you know, they're really cute and you won't have a lack of good stories if you visit these two places! The shelter is in northern Illinois, so don't think that I'm trying to get everyone to adopt, I just like to show off!http://www.animalheartline.org

Good to know Other fetching kittens are out there!!
I have a 18 week old Bengal kitten (Gucci). She loves to fetch. If I won't play with her, she'll try throwing them herself than chasing them a few times until she get frustrated and then she'll just meow for me to do it. I've never had a cat before so I thought it was my fault for treating her too much like a dog or something! She also seems fond of leaving it just barely out of my reach
( Her Pictures!Collapse )
